A couple of people riding bikes down a street

Last week I travelled to New York City with my daughter for the first time. While I grew up in NY, I had not been there in years and had never experienced it as a mom. I was both excited and nervous. Traveling with children can be tricky, especially when air travel is involved and since it was just the two of us I didn’t know what to expect.

On our first night we visited the Empire State Building to catch the sunset, which although crowded, was amazing (the VIP tickets are worth the splurge). Afterwards we took a buggy back to the hotel on a whim, which was actually really fun. The driver played Taylor Swift songs to my daughter’s delight (I learned then and there that she was a Swiftie!). The second day we spent it exploring my favorite museum growing up, The Museum of Natural History. The nostalgia being there after so many years and now with my daughter was alone worth the trip to NYC. On day three we visited the Guggenheim art museum, the Central Park Zoo, and took an hour and a half horse and carriage ride around Central Park. On our fourth day I surprised my daughter with tickets to Sloomoo Institute, an immersive slime experience that was super fun, and then did a little shopping to wrap up our trip. While we did not make any of our dinner reservations because of how tired we were from day activities, we still enjoyed great food during our visit (our hotel had a Michelin rated restaurant, yay!). I am a planner through and through so prior to our arrival I snagged tickets to all of the attractions we would be visiting and had our restaurant reservations secured. I also made sure to always have on me something for her to eat, watch, and play with, and we were well prepared for sticky hands, scrapes, naps, the works!

Here are some of my must-haves that made our trip safe, fun, and ready for anything:

TO KEEP THINGS FRESH AND CLEAN

IN-FLIGHT NECESSITIES

TO KEEP THEM BUSY ANYWHERE

SNACKS

GETTING AROUND TOWN

OTHER MAMA NECESSITIES

If you are thinking of traveling with your little one(s), but are a little apprehensive to do so don’t be! With good planning and preparation you got this mama!
